Twenty-five codes, and what each is for
The retail codes, the ones logistics runs on, the two-dimensional ones, and the few that belong to a trade of their own.
- EAN-13The retail code on almost everything sold in Europe.
- EAN-8The short retail code, for packs too small for a full EAN.
- UPC-AThe retail code of North America.
- UPC-EUPC-A squeezed to six digits for a small pack.
- ISBN-13A book number, written as an EAN with the 978 or 979 prefix.
- NDCThe drug code of the United States, printed as a UPC-A.

How it works
From a number to a printable file in four steps

The check digit is worked out for you. A code that cannot be encoded says why, in place of the symbol.

Is it really free?
Yes. Every symbology and every export is free from the first open — no account, no trial period and no card.
Does my data get uploaded?
No. The symbol is encoded and drawn in your browser. Nothing is sent to a server, and no sign-up is needed.
Which symbologies are there?
EAN-13, EAN-8, UPC-A, UPC-E, ISBN-13, NDC, Code 128, GS1-128, Code 39, Code 93, ITF, ITF-14, Codabar, Pharmacode, the seven GS1 DataBar codes, and four two-dimensional ones: QR, Data Matrix, PDF417 and Aztec.
Do I have to work out the check digit?
No. Type the code without it and it is appended. Type it with one and it is checked: a wrong digit is reported rather than silently replaced.
How wide should the bars be?
The X-dimension: 0.33 mm is the nominal figure for retail EAN, and the trade you print for will state its own minimum. Set it here in millimetres and the finished width follows.
Will it scan?
The symbol is drawn to the standard, with the quiet zone kept. What decides it after that is the printing: ink spread, contrast and the size you chose. Print a proof and scan it before the run.
